I am new to moodle and I want to know how i can create an assignment within the moodle course which eventually start appearing in the gradebook.
I want to use API as my assignment information lies in the provider.
I'm not sure what you are saying about you "wanting to use API as my assignment information lies in the provider." When you create as assignment and assign it a point value it will create a column in the grade book. When you grade the assignment the grade will go into the grade book.

When I say i want to create an assignment using an API. It means , I am a tool provider and have few assignments which students has taken within tool provider. I want to post the grades but moodle doesnt know about these assignments.
I want to push this assignment data to a course in a moodle or course gradebook and henceforth the grades.
