This is my first post here, but I've been reading the forums for quiet a while. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted by searching the forums so I'm hoping you guys (and gals) can help me out. Our Moodle server is configured to run a nightly cron.php. However, that nightly cron run is taking a ridiculously long time (sometimes 4+ hours). I am not the Moodle admin at my institution, but I utilize our Moodle servers everyday to assist faculty with their courses in various ways and I perform some IT work. So, to finally get to my questions:
1) How long is your cron.php runtime?
2) How often do you run cron.php?
3) Do you run cron.php form the web or command line?
I would be really grateful of any information you can provide me with. I am not looking for incredibly technical answer (since I am not the one who will be fixing this issue), but if you could just briefly answer my questions, I would appreciate it. Thanks and have a great day!
P.S. I should also say that I don't have the logs from the cron.php run or anything like that. The only reason that I know that it is taking so long is because I know when cron.php starts every night and I have had many students call me (often 3-4 hours after the start of cron.php) saying that the site was unresponsive, slow, etc.
