Moodle uses actually an TinyMCE version 3.x.x (don't know exactly which 3-version is used). This version is incompatible with IE 11. See http://www.tinymce.com/wiki.php/TinyMCE3x:Browser_compatiblity

Its not possible to create links to text with the editor. I heard also about problems with switch to HTML mode, but could not confirm this.

May be an update to TinyMCE 3.5.9. could solve the problem. http://tracker.modx.com/issues/10273

The latest TinyMCE 3.X version is actually 3.5.10 and the version that current moodle 2 is using is 3.5.8.

There were some other tracker issues (and bug fixes to older branch) about IE11 as well - some were fixed to core and some were not. We upgraded our production site to TinyMCE 3.5.10 about a month ago but it is not yet fully IE11 bug free either.

Moodle 2.7 is obviously going to change editor to Atto pretty soon - it has also a couple IE11 issues in the latest version too so what ever editor you choose latest IE causes always some trouble.wink

Hi Mauno, thanks for the detailed information.

In corporate environments users are working mostly with IE8, IE7 or elder. Today I red that here in Berlin public administration 66% of PCs are running on Win XP.  Users can't update their systems. On the other side in private environments we have mostly very up-to-date browsers. On both sides of the range we see problems on users side.

We are the suggestions from other users to handle such situations: disable editor? reduce features by configuration? offfering workarounds?

Ralf,

check https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-43312

Changing core tinymce from version 3.5.8 to 3.5.10 isn't a huge operation.

You could also tell IE11 users to press F12 in IE and make IE11 emulate previous versions of IE if they have difficulties with any sites where IE11 is supposed to be detected as IE, not Mozilla ("like Gecko")

Mauno, you say "Moodle 2.7 is obviously going to change editor to Atto pretty soon"  Where is this from?

I note this from recently which has some comment on editors: http://www.moodlenews.com/2014/text-editor-comparison/
