I am hoping someone out there in the community can help me understand this problem I have. Yesterday I was looking into upgrading the assignment 2.2 to the new version. As an interim measure I thought I could hide the option to choose assignment 2.2 from the activity choice. When I did this it deleted all 2000 assignments from the VLE, no warning no documentaion.
I managed to get a back up of the database from the day before and all the assignments have reappeared but not I am getting errors saying 'invalid module ID' or 'Can not read file, either file does not exist or there are permission problems'.
When I look in the database I can see the content and I can download files but the links dont work in the front end.
Please could anyone let me know when this could have happened just from hiding a assignment type and if I have any chance of rectifying it?
I am using Moodle 2.5+ (Build: 20130627)
Thanks for replying mary
Yes that is correct.
Yes Mary. I thought it would be like every other hide feature in Moodle.
I read about it first but know where said it would delete anything
I have just seen this which I didnt see yesterday.
Note: 'Assignment 2.2' should NOT be disabled until all course backups containing assignments from Moodle 2.2 and older are restored. If this is going to take some time, to avoid the confusion of two assignments being listed in the activity chooser, the capability mod/assignment:addinstance should be removed from the roles of teacher and manager. In this way, any old assignments will appear and may be used, but teachers will not be able to create any new 'Assignment 2.2' instances.
Mary it might also be worth adding it to other documents I didnt see it because I was reading
Which is the document that came up in a search when I googled it.
Good point, Wes. Although we have different documentation for each version of Moodle - see http://docs.moodle.org/overview/ it does seem that Google prefers the 2.3 documentation when searching; it hasn't quite caught up yet. I have added it there too.
