Installing and upgrading help

Hi

I installed Moodle 1.4.4 through cpanel but want to upgrade to 1.5 (though I had the same problem trying to upgrade to 1.4.5) and keep getting the same error.

"We could not connect to the database you specified. Please check your database settings."

I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work.

I'm using all the same settings as moodle 1.4.4- same directory name/same database (all the originals moved). I've also tried to create a new database and no matter what I do the installtion will not find it.

I've checked and double checked and the database name, user, prefix are correct.

I've checked in Fantastico and it says manual only update available under Moodle so no help there.
