In my experience with the LTI plugins
- Teachers = WP Admin role
- Students = WP Author Role
Not sure about your naming convention but with every LTI setup I have done the only way to properly access Wordpress is via the Moodle Activity. I couldn't login to wordpress from wordpress. Login always flows from Moodle to Wordpress. That is why the LTI connection exists.
