I am restructuring the order in which I will be presenting my course. When I went to move an entire week, it was like carrying a rake overflowing with leaves. As I moved it, assignments were dropped into other weeks and while I was trying to fix things, entire weeks jumped out of order. Fortunately, I identify all the titles of my assignments using a code that identifies the week of the semester so at least I could find the rogue assignments easily. I ended using my Windows Vocabulary before I got it all straightened up.
Did I do something wrong?
Has anyone else seen this?
I have done a lot of rework sine my last back up and this problem is not becoming infectious. This happened just before I was about to do another backup.
Aside from the afore mentioned discussion, It ow seems that when I try to place a week back where it should go, other weeks jump out of order. I relocate one, and two others need relocation.
I move the week 9 from between weeks 4 and 5 then week 2 ends up at the bottom of the list. I can only hope that once (if) I have them in place again then they will not move on their own during the year.
Although I do not see responses here, I will continue to post my discoveries.
I finally had all the weeks in order and did a backup this time. I then exited Moodle then entered it again. The order of the weeks is now: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 9, 12, 8, 7, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.
I am going to let this rest and will try again in a few hours....
This time, I logged in and arranged the weeks back into order. This time the only thing I did was turn off Editing and the sequence is now: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 6, 12, 8, 7, 11, 14, 13, 15, 16, 17, 10!
I dragged week 9 and could not see the silhouette where I would be allowed to drop the week. I scanned up and down slowly and it never showed up. Finally I just released it and now my order is :1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 8, 7, 9, 11, 14, 13, 15, 16, 17, 10.
After a few more week-scrambles, I tried a different technique.
-Move one week then log-out. (DO NOT hit "Editing Off")
-Log back in and Repeat until done.
When they were all back in order, they seemed to stay although I have not hit "Editing ON or Editing Off yet. I just want to see it all in order for a while.
I will check back to see if this is stable.
i have found that hitting the refresh on the browser between moves helps as well when I am having problems. Problems seem to happen when I have especially long courses.
What browser are you using?
Interesting thought, I am using Firefox but I had no such problems until my first try to drag/drop of a week to a new location. Then it was problem after problem and even played havoc with other weeks.
Yes, I do have a lot of entries for the course. Week#1 had the most and that is the one that I moved which started this whole fiasco. On that note, week#10 had only one entry and after the first incident with week#1, week#10 showed more jumping around than most of the rest. It jumped to the bottom of the list at least twice.
My resolution may revolve around my now consciously using Log-Out instead of occasionally just closing the window and using Log-In before selecting a course. Again, no errors happened until after that first catastrophic drag/drop and it was, if it maters, a very large week of entries.
For now, I have been able to open and close the Moodle session without any errors showing up although I tread gingerly.
This has been an issue for a while for some people. You can see in https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-34209 . They are trying to fix it. Said that moving down works better than moving up. They also have been trying to fix in the updates, so depending on when your sites last update was could make a difference. Chrome might work better. I like you have found things that make it work easier for me. One thing I have found is that I keep thinking I have lost the topic box as I am moving it up, if I use the mouse to pull back on it just a little, I once again see that it is still there. I can then keep moving it up. If I don't get a "visual" on where it is before I drop it, it will be in the wrong place.
When I go to move the week, it shows a faint version of that I am moving and seems to let me know when I can drop the week. Is that the "Topic box" to which you refer? If so, several times it just did not show up at all no matter how much I searched for a location and had to just release the mouse hoping for the best.
Another times, the image of what I was moving remained on the screen overlapping a week and showing two weeks on one. This time the browser refresh option did work to clear this.
Still, success seemed to be met by moving a week, log out, log in, repeat.....
FYI - I have found this thread difficult to follow when you change the subject line. When I see it in my email, it seems like several distinct discussions.
