Hi fellow Moodle users. I'm trying install a local instillation of the latest Moodle 2.6 package on my Windows 7 computer (I have done this successfully for previous versions of moodle), but I am having issues during the instillation process. I've tried following the guide at http://docs.moodle.org/26/en/Complete_install_packages_for_Windows but it appears to be based off a previous version of moodle (It even says "Moodle 1.9.2+ (Build: 20080806)" in one of the screenshots although it should be for Moodle 2.6+).
I download the latest Moodle 2.6+ .zip file for windows from http://download.moodle.org/windows/, unzip it, and then run the Start Moodle executable. I get through the Choose Language page, Confirm paths page, I go through the database settings, I pass the Instillation page that asks me to accept the terms and conditions, on the page titled "Instillation - Moodle (Build: 20131118)" where php_setting has the status "check" but I am unsure what I need to check to make its status "OK".
The everything else has an OK status and the page does say I meet all minimum requirements so I continue to the next page which takes a while to load. The Instillation feedback page after lists everything's instillation as Success, so I click continue and it takes me to the page to set up the administrator account at http://localhost/user/editadvanced.php?id=2. After this page is where everything stops working.
I fill in the information and click "Update Profile", but no matter how many times I've gone through the process and tried entering different information, this always leads to a blank page at the address of http://localhost/user/editadvanced.php. I refresh the page and resubmit the form data giving me the profile page for the admin user instead of the page for the front page settings. From this point onward the localhost site is now broken for me and every time I try to load up any page on the local moodle instillation I end up in a redirect loop and get the error in my browser "This webpage has a redirect loop" with the error code "ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS" (this is in Chrome). In Firefox I get a similar error telling me "The page isn't redirecting properly".
The URL I always end on when this happens is http://localhost/admin/index.php?cache=1 .
I can't understand why this is happening when I have done this before successfully on the same computer with previous versions of Moodle. I've made sure I haven't left a previous version of Moodle running, I've made sure there is no other program messing with it like Skype does with the ports issue, and I can't find a way around this issue at all. Has anyone run into this issue also and/or know how to get around it?
