It appears that scheduled allocation has been disabled when I have set up my workshop examples – is there something that needs to be selected in the initial setup of the workshop in order to enable scheduled allocation? If scheduled allocation is disabled, provided you allocate reviewers manually, can you still set automated switching from submission to grading?
Yes, these two features (automatic switching from the submission to the assessment phase and scheduled allocation) are independent. Each one doing just its job:
- If automatic phase switching is enabled then the Workshop will switch to the assessment phase automatically after the submission deadline. Just that.
- If the scheduled allocation is explicitly enabled at the Scheduled allocation method page then it will automatically allocate submissions for assessment after the submission deadline. Just that.
So yes, you can set automatic switching only. But then all what happens is that you would find the Workshop in the assessment phase with no submissions allocated. And vice versa. You can enable just the scheduled allocator - so you would find the Workshop still in the submission phase but with submissions allocated.
Apparently, using the combination of both features is what you want to do in 99% of cases. Still we follow the general principle "do one thing and do it well" when developing subplugins for Workshop so that's why it is done as it is now.
Thanks for the reply David. I've found that in the Moodle instance we use (2.3) the scheduled allocation option has been disabled, but I'm quite sure that in previous weeks, I've been able to select scheduled allocation. Is there a particular set of settings required to enable scheduled allocation?
