Dan, the only place I've seen it is on Paradiso's blog in a video. It's what I think you're looking for but the code has not been released to the community. Hangouts does have an API so the development could be done for the community, it's just a matter of getting Paradiso to release it, buy it from Paradiso or find a willing developer. http://www.paradisosolutions.com/blog/google-hangouts-moodle-integration/

Hello Daniel,

Basically you just need to add a Google hangout button to your Moodle website.

This page has all the informations about how to create such buttons : https://developers.google.com/+/hangouts/button

You can do this inside a Moodle HTML block for instance

You don't really need to be a developer to do that, it's just HTML tags.

Jean-Michel I'm trying to do this and I hope you can offer me some more guidance. I followed the link to the page, and have made an html block on the moodle page -- do I simply paste the html code into the text box in the block settings? I've tried several of the codes and it doesn't appear to render. Please help! this would be such a cool thing if I could get it going. Maybe I'm copying the wrong code from the page?
Thank you!!

Hola Anastacia, I think you're copying it as just text, but you need to click on the html button first (within the editor), and you'll get this screen where you need to paste it :

Remember... you'll need to change the gid field (marked with an orange line in the image), as it says in the page that Jean-Michel sent you.

Hope this help!

Perhaps this forum is still current? I don't know. Noob here.

Just setup a task in a moodle course as an URL task then copy the address of the hangouts sessión into that. As far as i have seen the address of a hangouts sessión is unique and can be used over and over as a private meeting room. Works as a charm. No plugin installation needed.

Google Hangouts and others are good if you can guarantee that all users have accounts and are logged into them. This can cause a great deal of confusion at the beginning of courses no matter how well documented the process is.

I recommend either using a service which has a dedicated plugin in Moodle, e.g. BigBlueButton, or a service that doesn't need users to login, e.g. http://blog.matbury.com/2014/09/02/instant-simple-video-conferencing-free/ (limited to 8 users per group) and https://moodle.org/plugins/view/mod_webrtcexperiments

Both the latter examples use an open, peer-to-peer (like Skype but with no need for plugins) web conferencing protocol called WebRTC: http://www.webrtc.org/ This does away with the need to rent or install expensive and complicated media servers.

I hope this helps! smile

Hi,

I believe the only person who now needs a Google Account is the person who creates the Hangouts session.

Students no longer require an account to access a hangouts session, unless a hangouts recording has been made for students to review that session

Cheers,
