New Moodle 2.4.6 Install. Some links not working

Hi There,

I've just installed (on 1and1 hosting) a new Moodle install of 2.4.6 and there are some links unavailable - visible but unavailable.

When I log in I can see Site Administration, and I get a "hand" when I mouse over it.  But when I click the link it does nothing.

When I go to "My Home" I can see the options for Administration but again I cannot click links such as Users, Appearance etc.

I've never seen this before.

  • I cannot turn error reporting on (as that's part of the Site Admin)
  • MoodleData is set to 777 permissions.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks Guillermo.

I'm using 2.4.6+ rather than 2.5 however from the linked page above:

This has been noticed as a javascript problem. You can try to:

  1. Use another browser or another version (try both, lower and higher versions).
Used Firefox, Chrome, and IE; none work.

  2. Purge all cache (Administration > Development > Purge all caches).
Done that by running myURL/admin/purgecaches.php - still didn't work

  3. Change the Use slash arguments option (HTTP --Administration > Server > HTTP).
  4. Try different settings at the AJAX and Javascript settings page (Administration > Appearance > AJAX and Javascript).
  5. Turn off JavaScript in your browser.
Worked in the sense I can access the menu but still problems.

Not clear as to how I can achieve the above without access to site admin menu.

Also not changing theme which is interesting if I go to MyURL/theme/

I have another Moodle site installed on build Moodle 2.4.6+ (Build: 20130927) as opposed to Moodle 2.4.6+ (Build: 20131004)  the former works whilst the latter does not.

I'm really confused about this.

Hello Dave,

Indeed, you're right. I missed that obvious detail at the documentation page, sorry about that. I'll fix, but in the mean time, here are the URL for each option:

2. Purge all cache (Administration > Development > Purge all caches).
http://yoursite.com/admin/purgecaches.php

3. Change the Use slash arguments option (HTTP --Administration > Server > HTTP).
http://yoursite.com/admin/settings.php?section=http

4. Try different settings at the AJAX and Javascript settings page (Administration > Appearance > AJAX and Javascript).
http://yoursite.com/admin/settings.php?section=ajax

5. Turn off JavaScript in your browser.
http://www.enable-javascript.com/

The site shows how to enable, so one needs to do the opposite.

The Theme Selector page is at:
http://yoursite.com/theme/index.php

Yes, this has been a particular, unsolved problem for some time. Given the many possible factores, so far there isn't a clear-cut solution. Sometimes an option works and sometimes it doesn't. I once solved it by downgrading FireFox, go figure.

Have you tried the "You should also" options?

1. Enable Debugging (Administration > Development > Debugging).
http://yoursite.com/admin/settings.php?section=debugging

2. Check if your browser is showing some warning or error indications (watch the status bar).

The section, My Administration block links don't expand!, has been updated.

I am now disciple of the great Guillermo Madero S.  I got to the third item on the new page (slash links) and it's working.

Thank you for your support on this.
