Mix Moodle with another platform of e-learning

Hi

I use the Japanese platform of e-learning WebELS which gives me a lot of facilities in the use of its module e-meeting against its e-learning module intended for students in Ph-D do not respond’s to my requirements as a teacher.

Is it possible to make a match between Moodle and WebELS to use the advantages of one or the other platform and if so can you enlighten me on how can I realize it.

Usually these systems are integrated by the software companies themselves. So, WebELS would write a Moodle Plugin to handle the integration and submit it to Moodle.Org for inclusion in their plugins database.

Companies often do this in the hope that they will get more Moodle users interested in their product.

One example of this which looks very similar to WebELS is Big Blue Button:

http://www.bigbluebutton.org/

That is free open source software and they have written Moodle plugins already:

https://moodle.org/plugins/browse.php?list=set&id=2

You can get affordable hosting from one of their partners:

http://www.bigbluebutton.org/commercial-support/

So, my approach would be to ask WebELS to write a plugin, and if they wont consider switching to BigBlueButton or some other supported platform.

I will say recording of sessions is not great in BBB, but the platform is being developed and improving.

On a side note Adobe Connect also have Moodle plugins but that is a much more expensive service.

Thank you Jez H,

it is a good idea, effectively WebELS looks a lot at Big Blue Button.

And if we want to make only one link between the two platefomes is that will be the same concept?

Yes it is the same concept, Moodle integrates with lots of systems by using its plugin architecture.

WebELS could download the BBB plugin and see how it worked, adapt it for their own platform and submit it back to Moodle.Org for inclusion in the Plugins directory.

If they cannot do that you could just switch to using BBB  which already has what you need.

I will propose this idea to the designers of the platform WebELS.
