Which activity is that picture from? I mostly work with Assignment, and I never see the Group mode drop down box there.
I ask because I understand that Groupings have to have groups in them to work, so I don't know what the Group mode would do.
Edit: Ah! We set courses to force group mode, so never see that box. I'll just leave this here for anyone else who forgets his or her basics
