Stop buttom problem

Hi Gordon,

I've upgraded to the latest HotPot module (v3.0.71), and now I have a problem that I had before and you solved (see this discussion). My quizzes have the abandon button, and now that button doesn't work properly, when click displays a blank page.

stop buttom

Best regards,

PS: My site is under Moodle 2.5.2

Dear Antonio,
just a quick update on the HotPot STOP button issue. I could not come up with a quick fix, so I working through a grander solution which will also handle the comparatively recent phenomena of browsers no longer recognizing the "onunload" event. I am most of the way there. I am testing the solution on all the various kinds of files that the HotPot module recognizes.

Thank you for your continued patience

kind regards
Gordon

Dear Antonio,
thank you for your patience. I believe I have now implemented a solution to the STOP button issue which you reported.

This solution is hopefully more robust than the previous functionality. It should not interfere with the HotPot's "delay3" setting (= time delay at the end of the quiz). At the same time, it will allow the results to be saved if students navigate away from the page.

I tested the new functionality in JCloze, JCross, JMatch, JMix and JQuiz, in all combinations of STOP button, and Delay3, and a number of different output formats.

Please be aware that I have not tested yet in Rhubarb and Sequitur. If you could send any feedback on those two type of exercise, with and without STOP button, I would be most grateful.

best regards
Gordon

Re: Stop buttom problem

Dear Gordon,

I've already updated to the latest version of hotpot module.
I upload to my moodle 2.5.2 the HotPot exercises in html, and testing the stop button I have the following results:

HotPot Stop button Score
JQuiz Yes Yes
JCloze Yes Yes
JCross Yes Decreased
JMatch Yes Decreased
JMix No ?

Sorry but I can't send you any feedback about Rhubarb and Sequitur, because I don't know what are those items.

And as always, thank you for your invaluable help.

Best regards

Antonio

Everything I said in my previous post was tested with HotPot v 3.0.75. Now I just see there is a new version. I'm installing it and later I'll send a new feedback.

Best regards.

Dear Gordon,

The adage "A picture is worth a thousand words":

  • Exercise JCloze:

JCloze exercise

  • Problems I found: Actions 1, 2 impossible. Action 3 depending on which key is used to delete, it's possible or impossible.

Problems in exercise JCloze

Best regards.

Hi Antonio,
thanks for the extra info. I understand that you have tried deleting characters within a JCloze gap with two keys - I guess the "Backspace" key and the "Delete" key - and one of them doesn't work.

I will investigate and report back.

cheers
Gordon

Dear Antonio,

the investigation took longer than I expected, but I have returned with a solution, which I invite you to try out. Please download the latest version of the HotPot module, and let me know if the "Delete" button now works as you expect when inputting text in JCloze (and JQuiz and Rhubarb)

Later this week, I will have a look at the other issue you mentioned, namely scores in JCross and JMatch when exiting with the STOP button.

regards
Gordon
