x in the corner of hot potatoes

Hi

Installed the hotpotateos module v 2 successfully on 1.4.5 after following the advice to edit the version.php file.
When adding a Hotpot activity, I get a letter x in the top lefthand corner of the screen, which then shows up later when the exercise is displayed, too.

What file needs changing to get rid of this? Could this be fixed in an update?

Dear Norbert,

sorry about that little extra "z" in the top left hand corner of your screen. It is caused by a little typing slip made by me. You can take it out yourself, by opening up "moodle/mod/hotpot/lib.php" and removing the "z" at the beginning of the first line. Alternatively you can download the latest version of the module (via CVS or from http://bateson.kanazawa-gu.ac.jp/moodle/hotpot-module.zip) and install it into your "moodle/mod/hotpot" folder. It contains an amended "lib.php".

By the way from, the look of the screen shot, it appears you have not moved the language files across from "mod/hotpot/lang" to "moodle/lang".

Many thanks. No trouble.
I should have read the readme. Just did. Fantastic. Will try the other steps to allow integration of Hot Pot into Moodle quiz module, too.
Since I modified the source code of many Hot Potatoe files and used adapted scripts, too, I am curious to see how it all works. I have also used Textoys and Markin, which are currently not supported. Marking is very different, but I suppose, due to their similar structure, Textoys could be made to work, too.

In any case, many thanks again. Your work has been smashing.

Hi Norbert,

you wil be pleased to know that the HotPot module already works with TextToys. At least, it works with the TexToys html files.

I haven't come across "Marking" exercises before. It will be interesting to investigate.

As you may know, the HotPot module contains some javascript which is inserted into the Hot Potatoes quizzes. The javascript extracts information from the quiz when it is running the student's browser, and returns that information to Moodle. The javascript expects to find the standard data structures used by standard Hot Potatoes quizzes. As long as your modified quizzes have these standard data structures, the results should be returned from them as required.

You may also be interested to know that I soon intend to begin enhancements to extract information from "Michael Rottmeir" quizzes which are based on Hot Potatoes quizzes.

Textoys and Rottmeier scripts

Thanks again. Will try Textoys files. I have been using Rottmeier scripts extensively and even modified one or the other myself to fit my purposes. I will try and report back on results.

As to Markin, it is software written by Martin Holmes, and I have ben using it extensively since 1998 in all its versions for marking students writing and providing remedial work via links in annotations. You find the software on http://www.cict.co.uk/software/markin/index.htm . It's also Javascript-based.
