I hope this has not been asked before and I over looked it. I am backing Moodle up so i can move it to another server. I have gotten all the courses backed up, but I am wanting to know if there is a way to back up the Moodle settings so I don't have to reconfigure everything on the new install to match the old install. Thanks in advance.
Think you want a site backup which consist of an archive of the moodle code directory (especially the config.php file), the moodle data directory, and an sql dump of the database for moodle.

or

If your moodle version is <-2.x (ie, 1.9.x) site backups are the same.

Ken is right and has detailed the best way to migrate a server. If you have a specific reason for wanting to restore courses instead, here is a link to a plugin that allows you to export all your site settings and reimport them to a new site. A must have for you type of restore (which I have done several times when wanting to rebuild a fresh database!).

EMMA!
I have just seen this posting. This plugin will be a life saver. I regularly build a sandbox server and then have to duplicate all the settings which is an error ridden process. Thanks for posting the link here.

Glad it helps - it is a great plugin.
You could perhaps also look at Moodle Flavour plugin : https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=local_flavours
Hope this helps,

This was exactly what I needed. Thanks for all the help!.
Glad to help.
