I've got my site set to backup courses once a day, and send me an email when it is done. I noticed today no email came, and so I went to try to backup, and got this message:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/mysite/public_html/mod/data/backuplib.php on line 56
I am running 1.4.4. I haven't made any changes to this file or any other files other than a language file since yesterday, so I have no clue why this is happening. Any ideas?

perhaps it's something related with the "data" module?
If you aren't going to backup information from such module (but you want to test it), I think that you can safely delete the mod/data/backuplib.php and mod/data/restorelib.php until it becomes fixed.
