How to assign parent role?

I'm trying to figure out how to assign one user as a parent with respect to another user who is a student in Moodle v2.5. I'm attempting to follow the documentation found here:

However, it says I should do so by folowing this menu sequence for the student:

Site-Administration>Users>Accounts>Browse-List-of-user>Profile-settings-for-[username]>Roles

It claims I will then be presented with a menu that includes the option "Assign roles relative to this user" and even shows a screen capture of such a menu. But when I follow this path the Roles menu does not include the described menu option. Can anyone help me out here?

Hi Steve,

The link "Assign roles relative to this user" only appears when there is a role which can be assigned in the user context. Thus I suggest that you edit your parent role and double-check that User is ticked as a 'Context types where this role may be assigned'.
