Webby Award despair

Webby Award despair

So an Open Uni UK site was nominated for a webby award.  I'm sure glad it didn't win.

Follow > learning (tab) > DIY science ecosphere > science (link at the bottom) for an example.  This is a set of pages designed for Joe Bloggs with no science experience yet it has 9 pages of text and has a lump of complex equations with no explanation of the symbols.  sad

There's some other good stuff in the other sections of the site but I despair when such dross is published by such a prestigious organisation.

I rant about it some more on my blog here

I liked the "Show Me" site that was nominated in the educational category.

But even being nominated for a Webby Award can get you a lot of attention. After (and even before) our Theban Mapping Project site was nominated in the Best Practices category a couple years ago we seemed to get as much attention for our design as we did for our content. I think there are more people using our site to teach Web design than there are using it to teach Egyptology!
