Gradebook PAIN... need help please!!!!

We are having issues with the Lock/Unlock features of the gradebook.... it is very difficult for faculty to understand when to lock and unlock the gradebook.  here is my explanation to a faculty member.  Can you explain why we must lock and unlock the gradebook?  Please help us resolve this issue.. Thanks!!!

We are using Moodle 2.3.3 version

The Crazy lock/unlock is the culprit.  So here is what you do.

  1.  Before you enter grades, go to Categories and Items and click on the lock next to COURSE TOTAL  to “UNLOCK” ONLY the course total.
  2. Enter your grades.
  3. Then click on the Lock next to Course Total to LOCK the course total.

So in essence.. the Course Total has to be “locked” for students to see their grade.  However, if the course total is locked when you enter a new grade, the course total is not changed because it is locked.  That is why you must “Unlock” the course total first…  then enter the grades so the course total will accumulate the total scores and then Lock again so students can see the accumulated course total.

All other grade columns in the gradebook stay UNLOCKED.

You shouldn't need to lock the grades in order for the students to see them. We never lock our grades. Maybe you've got a setting somewhere that needs to be changed?

The lock/unlock button is simply so that grades do not get changed.  Students are never able to change their grades so there is no need to lock the course total.
