Interesting comment about having both php-memcahe & php-memcached installed. Last week we performed a big upgrade on our Moodle production system during which I made the switchover to memcached. It's stable this time and we do have both extensions installed. We've changed a lot since I had the problems 2 years ago so this could just be coincidence. The OS has been upgraded, we upgraded from php 5.4 to 5.5 and I've installed a much newer release of libmemcached (1.0.16).
