Sorry, no.

However, Jamie Pratt, who created qcreate for Moodle 1.9 still does freelance Moodle development. You could contact him and ask him for a quote for how much it would cost to update the module.

tanx Mr.Hunt for your answer ...

I'll do it soon ... . It seems that i have no alternative option ...

Just another question: I wanna student have ability to put comment about quiz questions (for example one may comment on a question that "this question is not useful" or sth like that). If there is any module for it?

I think it is good to encourage students to feed back to the teacher about the usefulness of the learning activities, but I don't think that requires a special tool. Just use Moodle messaging, emails, forums, questionnaires, comments block ...

Old school thinking, Tim.  wink  Now we have thumbs up/thumbs down on everything--it would be great to get students instantly evaluating the value of a question as they do a quiz or a test.

As for your original request about creating questions, Mohsan, I agree. Why should teachers be creating questions?  Is that the best way to learn?  Far better for students to create questions--in a systematic way--with a workflow that allows staged editing. It has been done and I would welcome a new version of the Question Creation module that Peter Ruthven Stuart made (perhaps programmed by Jamie).  Contact him at this address: stuart at fun.ac.jp

Don "... it would be great to get students instantly evaluating the value of a question as they do a quiz or a test."

Yes, but ... you would be creating a typical double bind situation. If a student decides to give a "wrong" answer to a question because they deem that question to be ill-formed, how would the teacher assess them?

Don "Why should teachers be creating questions?  Is that the best way to learn?  Far better for students to create questions--in a systematic way--with a workflow that allows staged editing."

Again I quite agree ... on principle. In my experience (44 years of language teaching), only the best students (and the best teachers - but that's another storywink) are able to ask "good" questions. From my early teaching days, I can recall that bright kid who would put her hand up to answer a question I had not even asked yet. She was so clever she knew that, at that time, given what had been said before, there was a pretty good chance I (the teacher) was going to ask precisely that question. And of course she knew both the question and the answer.

Should we train our students to ask questions rather than to answer questions? Yes. After all, isn't teaching all about developing the critical mind, and does that not go through asking questions (of others and of oneself)? Any tool that can help towards this goal is useful.

Joseph

Thank you both, Mr.Hunt and Mr.Hinkelman.

I think it's a good idea that students could use forum in order to feedback on questions. But i want to all students can reach the discussion about that question by use of link bellow the question. For example, when a student wants to give some feedback on a question for the first time, at the moment, she/he be able to click on a link below the question and navigated to forum in order to open a discussion about that question and put her/his comment there. In this way if other students when see that question later, they can join to the discussion and use others feedback.

Now, my question is: how could i put this link bellow the question? (Really i'm not module developer and i don't know if is it possible?! And how?)

Hello Mohsen Ghorbani

I am the person who originally conceived of the Qcreate module back in 2007. Having got funding from my university (Future University Hakodate) I commissioned Jamie Pratt to program the module. For people interested in this 1.9 plugin, visit the Question Creation activity module Demonstration Site. Unfortunately, we never got around to upgrading it to Moodle 2.x

However, the good news is that Andreas Riepl of exabis Moodle plugins has upgraded the module to 2.x. You can download it from GitHub

https://github.com/gtn/qcreate

I haven't tried this new version yet, but I am sure it's worth a go.

It is great to see someone has taken the time to move the question creation module idea forward. Well done Exabis for doing this!

I don't think that Exabis intended to officially launch the new code yet.

I have looked at the code but not in much detail, it looks like the main functionality of the module is all there and the module installed OK for me on Moodle 2.5.

I believe that Exabis have more updates to the code they have written that they will be uploading to github soon. It looks like the backup and restore functionality is not yet working. Also Exabis have, for now, have removed the functionality to have a filtered export of questions. This function allowed a teacher to export questions after grading the questions, so that a teacher can choose to export only questions that have achieved above a certain grade. The idea of which was that good questions created by students could then be exported and reused in quizzes, maybe after some further editing.

Anyway, a big thanks to Exabis, for their contribution, from what I have heard it sounds like they will be continuing to contribute to the support and maintenance of the question creation module. I think we will hear more from them soon about this.

Hello Jamie,

A big thank to Exabis for upgrading qcreate to work with Moodle 2.x

I have been a fan of this activity since you created it (I must admit not all my students like it, as Joseph said it's difficult to write good questions).

Playing with it and planing to use it in a few weeks, I sometimes find bugs or things that could be improved or would need some work to be really in line with Moodle 2.5 and I generally fix them "on the fly" in my local repo (for instance that morning I saw that images in intro text weren't working and I fixed it)

Do you know if Exabis has a more recent version that I could compare to my branch and contribute back with my changes ?

It is awesome, it should be in core. I have installed it successfully in 2.5 and am going to use it this term.

Hello Marcus,

In my github repo https://github.com/jmvedrine/qcreate forked from Exabis there is a branch called workinprogress (name say it all smile) with the actual state of my work.

I think the "export good questions" will be working in a few days (it is already there but currently all questions are exported because I didn't had time to add the necessary code to lib.php in the qcreate_pluginfile function)

warning: files for backup/restore are here, but aren't finished so would badly crash if you try to backup/restore a course. My suggestion if you want to test the actual state is to simply remove the backup subdir.

Does anybody know how to contact Exabis developers to coordinate our work ?

My problem is that I need to have all the features I need working in a week from now (including French lang files, but fortunately I will only need backup/restore later).

I had French lang files for the 1.9 version, but I can' find them. Moodle 1.9 seems so long ago now ...

The "Export best questions" feature is working now in the "workinprogress" branch and the French lang file is 90% done.

If you try it don't forget to report bugs and problems.

Hi Jean,

It is good to see that there is continued interest in this module. I hope to have time to chip in and help with the update and maintenance of this module too. I believe that Exabis have made further extensive changes to the code but have not published these on their github yet, I will get in touch with them and alert them to this discussion and see if they will let us know what their plans are.

Jamie

Hello,

I think it would be useful to point people coming on that thread that I posted in the "Teaching with Moodle" forum about the version I did for Moodle 2.7 see https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=13707#p1149005

Re-thinking to it, I should have posted this message here in the General Developer Forum, but I as always I did a search and posted a reply to the most recent message on qcreate, not realising I was in the "Teaching with Moodle" forum smile

It would be interesting that people using one of the previous versions of qcreate for Moodle 2.x (Marcus ?) read this message because I posted about some bugs these versions have.

I tried to contact Exabis and Andreas, but unfortunately I didn't received any response.

I think it would be good to have this activity in the Plugin Directory, but I would prefer to have approval from Jamie, Peter or somebody from Hakodate University and Andreas or somebody from Exabis.

Hi Jean-Michel,

It is great you have updated the module.

I have no objection to it being published in the plugins database. I did object to Exabis plans to add their branding on the icon representing the plug-in in the database which I thought could be a bit misleading.

I will email Peter but am pretty sure he would pretty happy about continued interest in the module too.

Cheers,

Jamie

Thanks Jamie, That's good news !

My intention is to make clear in the text for the plugin database to give due credits to all contributors of this wonderful Moodle activity plugin.

I am still fighting a bug : when a student delete a question that was already graded the new calculated grade is wrong until a teacher garde or regrade a question created by this student, but once this is fixed I think that if I don't find any other problem the plugin will be ready for a first release.

According to my tests the version for Moodle 1.9 have the same problem if a student delete a graded question.

I will try to contact Peter and Exabis.
