I have almost 4,000 certificates in a course - I think all those PDFs are bogging things down. How can I archive the certificate PDFs?? I have searched and can't find anything on this. HELP!!
If you have set the certificate setting 'Save Certificates' to yes then the PDFs will be stored in your moodledata directory. However, in Moodle 2.x the file system stores the location of these files in a hash (see http://www.keystone.edu/dotAsset/224735.pdf for a good explanation on this).
Unfortunately this means there is no easy way to delete these files without an interface to do so and unfortunately the certificate module does not provide that functionality. It may be something I introduce in the future, however, the majority of my free developing time (ie, not developing core Moodle and working on other areas) is spent on the new certificate module I am creating.
If you create a tracker issue at tracker.moodle.org with your request I will hopefully get round to it in the near future.
Thank you for the time you've invested in developing this fantastic module. I am a couple of years late on entering this discussion, so I was just wondering if there have been any updates which would enable the deletion of previously saved certificates from the moodledata folder?
It would be ideal if the cron could identify that 'Save certificates' is now set to OFF, and thereby delete all previously saved certificates automatically. But I would also be happy for any other kind of solution that would allow this to be done manually...
I would be grateful for any kind of advice you could provide.
