May you all live in peace!
I have put the same question in themes forum but could not get any response. That's why posting it here.
On grader report, we have a setting to have static name column. So, when we scroll horizentally, student name column does not scroll away. This makes it easier to grade students.
On the assignment grading page, the same feature is not available as shown in the attached image:
Any update how we can fix student name column on this page???
Let me see if I can help.
1. On the assignments list, you will notice a little "-" button under each of the column headings. If you click that, it will hide columns. You can hide things like the user picture in order to better see what is on the right.
2. While I'm discussing the header row, keep in mind that the titles over each row are clickable and that will order the list according to that column. For example, you can order your student roster by first name if you click on the "First name" header.
3. At the bottom of the page your can filter out all records except those that need grading. That may help.
4. I also sometimes adjust the font size on the browser (make the font smaller) so I can see more of the grade list. For example, on Firefox, I can tap "Ctrl -" (that is Control and the Minus key) to zoom out and see more of the roster. When I'm done, I "Ctrl +" (Control and the Plus key) to zoom back to normal; or use "Ctrl 0" (Control Zero) to go back to normal size.
Hopefully, some of these ideas will help.

Isn't all this just compensation for inefficient programming in the first place? When one accidentally closes the page then all that set up has to be reinstated.? How about a save feature so that next time I come in, it is all set up? All I really want is to know that this has been discussed and that there may be a fix happening for it.
Cannot one freeze rows/columns to keep row names and column titles in the screen and to scroll the rest?
Can the horizontal scroll bar be placed at the bottom of the page instead of in the division with all the grading information.
It is not a good image for Moodle if the best option is to export everything to an Excel spread sheet then import it again after doing all the work. Unfortunately, I hear that importing back into Moodle can be hazardous.
We just upgraded from Moodle 2.2.4 to 2.5.2 and this "collapsability" you mention seems to be gone now. I wonder why. Any idea how to get it back? I managed to find some custom CSS code to permanently remove/hide the columns, but it would be nice if it were optional, rather than imposed site-wide.
After playing around with this for several hours, I realized it's theme related. We are using the Essential Theme. When I switched to Clean, the collapse column icons returned. I've posted a question about the Essential Theme difference here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=231970#p1062497
