Adding a file of folder with an http* path...

Hi everyone,

I stumbled across this while working on TC in the "source file" help window:The source file may be specified as a folder and file path in the Moodle course files area, or it may be a url beginning with http:// or https://

I have a question:

Will Moodle actually download the file and paste it into the course or will it download it each time a student resquests it?

In other words, if the original file on the distant server (http...) is modified after setting up the activity, will the students get the modified file or the one that was there when the activity was set up?

Besides, if the distant activity file has links to other sub files (sound etc..), are those sub files downloaded to Moodle or pulled at each request? Will changes made to those sub files be seen by students, or will those files be the ones available at the time of activity creation?

All of these questions to know whether live update is possible...

At the moment I don't think the use of urls as a source file is working. Did you try it?

I have, but when I "drop" the URL in the dropping section (where you would otherwise drop file icons), nothing happens. I tried to use the file picker, to no avail.

I was wondering maybe _you  _of all persons_ woud know smile Your answer, though, lets me guess the functionality is not ready yet.

I am still trying to figure out a way to have my xml files (Hotpot) in one place, for all my courses, so that I can update once for all the courses.

Aliases are not the working for me because, I cannot save on one Moodle and restore the course to another Moodle.

Any idea???

Hi Philippe,

looks like specifying the source file as a URL is not yet functional. I agree it would be a good feature to have. I intend to add at some point.
