Thanks Juan -
We have found a workaround for getting wav files to play in-browser. Originally we were trying to use the "Insert Moodle Media" or "Insert/edit embedded media" to put the audio files into the Summary/Announcements area of a module. However, all that gave us was a link to download the audio, or just didn't display at all. It just wasn't working.
Instead, once a file (video or audio) is uploaded into Moodle through the app, we add it as a File into a module, Then, set the display to be in either a new window or in a pop-up.
If interested, you can view a demo video we created for instructors. While it's not the ideal, it certainly does the job and accomplishes what we're hoping to do with it.
