Hello,

we are in the process of preparing a larger German Hub and analysed some of the structures at hub system. We will make some suggestions for smaller and general improvements.

Educational level contains the fiels: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Government, Association, Corporate, Others.

This structure is inconsistent. From our understanding Primary, Secondary and Tertiary are levels. Governmental, Associations and Corporate are not levels. They are educational sectors.  For Governmental it is not clear what it should mean.

A better structure for levels could be:

  • Primary
  • Secondary
  • High School
  • Vocational school/training
  • University
  • Adult education
  • Others

It should be possible to select multiple entries whild uploading a course or while searching because the boarders between the levels is often not clear. A course used in vocational training can be used in higher education and adult education also. We have an other problem in Germany because primary schools are for classes 1-4 in some countries and others for class 1-6. Even foreign language starts from class 1, 3 or five and courses can be used on different levels. So it should be possible to select more than one level for a course.
The suggested improvement is  a smaller change on language system.  I know that this could create a problem with  existing uploaded courses at MOOCH and local Moodle system with not updated language packages. Any other suggestions?

In subject list we also found problems to add courses: there are two different problems:

  1. The subject list is a category scheme from Australian Office of Statistics based on a category scheme from UNESCO. There are several specific loacl terms. The main problem with this list is in the language area.
Teachers searching or uploading a language course course wants to select the language that they are teaching. In the list only english is listed. We suggest to add the most often spoken languages in the world (

    English
    Spanish
    Portugese
    French
    German
    Latin
    Greec
    Indian (Hindi, Bengal)
    Arabic
    Korean
    Japanese
    Chinese
    Russian
    North european languages (others)
    West european languages (others)
    African languages
    East asian languages (others)
    other languages
In the moment its not possible to add French, Netherlands or German  here. This languages are not listed directly and Westeuropean languages - that would be also correct - is missing.

  2. For educational statistics its required that a course is added to one subject only.  For Hubs and search processes multiple entries should be possible. I.e. a language course can be related to the language that is been teached, it can be a course in teacher training or Journalism and it can contain several aspects of social skill training.
This combination of different aspects is done very often in courses.

MDL-39256 is about the multiselect fields
MDL-39258 is about the language subjects
