Need Help Migrating Moodle 1.9 on Windows to Moodle 2.4 on Ubuntu

I am new to Moodle, and the school that I recently started at is currently running Moodle 1.9 on a Windows server. I have set up Moodle 2.4 on a Ubuntu server, and would like to migrate the data over. I haven't been able to track down documentation on that big of a jump. Perhaps my first question should be, is it possible? If so, where can I find a tutorial or related information on it? Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT: Is it possible, and if so easier, to just backup all course, user, etc. data and import it to my 2.4 server?

The path 1.9 upwards is rough. If you don't want to shock the teachers and blame Ubuntu for all the evil, follow this path:
A. _migrate_ the present 1.9.x to identical (1.9.x) into Ubuntu. Instructions here: http://docs.moodle.org/19/en/Moodle_migration.
(Test long enough to convince all that everything works perfectly.)

B. Upgrade 1.9.x to 1.9.latest (1.9.19+ Build: 20130125 as of today). Documentation here: http://docs.moodle.org/19/en/Upgrading.
(dito)

The move to the next generation of Moodle, 2.x, is a different story. Check the numerous wikipages http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Upgrading, http://docs.moodle.org/24/en/Upgrading, etc. And above all run version 2.x in parallel to 1.9 and let teachers test the new site before switching. In short: Don't burn the bridges!

I've started explorting courses from the old Moodle and importing them into the new Moodle and think that this might be the best route for us. So far we aren't losing any vital data in translation so it might work out well for us. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Parth

If you were talking to random hero, https://moodle.org/user/view.php?id=1590704&course=5, he is no more in this forum and haven't accessed the site for more than a year.

Whatever, although your problem is similar, it is not the _same_. Worth starting a new thread. Wait, better read the Moodle Docs first. For example, https://docs.moodle.org/en/Upgrading.
