Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

Morning,

Could someone tell me why my dock side bar colour, does not reach the top of the page?

That would be because its designed to sit just below the awesome bar which you have removed Claire smile

I'll look up the code to move it up for you now and get back to you as quickly as I can

Richard

Edit: Look for

body #dock {

top:26px

etc.

change the 26px to 0 - its on about line 1000 of krystle.css on my copy - but the copy I have here is the one I've customised for work, so it may be slightly different, but it should be near there, depending on your own customisations too smile

Hope that helps Claire

Richard

Fantasic once again Richard, this has solved the white space at the top.

One last point, I am trying to find in the css where links are underlined. I have tried searching for font-weight underlined but come back with no results. Is there another css term to state a link is underlined?

Dear Claire,

text-decoration property on the 'a' tag...

http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_text_text-decoration.asp

Find it and set it to 'none'.

This might need to be done for all pseudo selectors:

a:link, a:visited, a:hover, a:focus, a:active

Cheers,

Gareth

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

Thanks Gareth, after looking at the code I think it is a browser issue. IE 9 and Fire Fox both display without bold but Google Chrome 26.0.1410.43 displays the dock text bold.

Dear Claire,

They look almost the same to me, and 'yes' I have been to 'SpecSavers' ;).

On a browser you can choose the font type and style to use for displaying text.  So perhaps it is that which is different locally.

Cheers,

Gareth

Dear Claire,

Oh God! 'IE' one of Satan's children.

I think it just might be the difference between the font that is set in the browser (see attached screen shots) - 'advanced mode' for Chrome to get the settings....

Cheers,

Gareth

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for those but unfortunately no still fuzzy text. I have taken bold off and even changed the font.

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

Hi Claire,

I'm not sure about this as on mine (firefox and chrome) I'm not seeing either bold or underlined (apart from my Home link, which doesn't appear to be bold on yours!) - but I'm on Linux at the moment so I can't check on IE. Both browsers look identical to me

Could you try using firebug or chrome developer tools to point out where the css is coming from and then we can try to help get rid of it (or standardise it across the browsers for you)

Edit: In fact I have just checked on mine and there is a rule coming from canvas as a parent theme which specifically says a { text-decoration: none; } so there should be no underlining going on mixed so perhaps you can check with firebug to see where it is coming from or if that rule has been changed on your version?

Richard

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

Hi Richard,

If I am in Firefox and I disable all css styles, I am still left with Moodle displaying links with text decoration underlined.

I have gone through all of my themes and taken out anything which is underlined to none, but still get the underlined links.

I have removed cached from the three browers, plus restarted IIS.

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

OK Guys, Good News restarted the IIS and the fuzzy text went, so I can close this as a cache issue on the server.

Also, used my head and typed the krystal custom code box, the same code in krystal.css for links with a text decoration of none and it has removed all the underlined links.

Thanks for all your help.

hmm - but I'm still wondering where it was picking the underline up from in the first place? I've just done a fresh install of krsytle on my localhost in work and its definitely not happening in there, Claire. That is strange thoughtful but I'm glad you have it sorted now smile

The text-decoration: underline will, most likely, be coming from YUI.

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

My guess on the fuzzy text would be that there's a (white) text-shadow being applied to those captions - Chrome supports text-shadow and therefore displays it, but IE doesn't, so you get normal-looking text.  I'm not sure why restarting IIS would fix it, though, unless the text-shadow was also removed (or changed to a different colour).

Claire,

Forgive me if I sound a little sceptical, but I have a feeling that you are using this forum as a means to fix a theme which is a concoction created by yourself, rather than the Krystle theme Richard, and the rest of use, think you are using.

A customised theme, can be more prone to be full of little problems, and so is harder to fix from a distance.

So to save a lot of toing and froing, can you parcel up the theme as it is now and email it to me?

I've sent you my email address in a message.

Many thanks,

Mary

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your email I will send the theme to your email address.

The krystal theme in another forum where I was having problems was a concoction of Krystal and Ardvark Make Over with my Live Moodle 2.3.

THIS customisation with Richard and other participants at the beginning of this forum  was a fresh install on my development server Moodle 2.4 from this moodle.org plugins database  https://moodle.org/plugins/view.php?plugin=theme_krystle.

So your current Moodle site that I saw last night is using the old krystle_makeover theme? Which makes sense. If so is there anyway I could get to see your develpment site?

Cheers

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise

Hi Mary,

If you went to this site moodle.cvqo.org last night this is Krystal_Makeover Moodle site version 2.3 - Which doesnt need these customisations in this forum.

My development site which is not accessible to the public and only on my network is Moodle version 2.4 with the Krystal theme 2.4 version which I downloaded from the moodle.org plugins site, that I linked in my previous message, that does need these changes.

I hope this clears the confusion up and sorry if I have confused you even more.smile

Re: Krystal Theme 2.4 Customise
Group Particularly helpful MoodlersGroup Testers

Paul, you are right - there is a text shadow in there, which doesn't show up on the original krystle because its a white shadow and the dock headings are on a white background (its being inherited from elsewhere) But its showing on Claire's because of the recolouring of the heading background.

Mary, I think you are probably right about it coming from yui - the interesting bit is why it doesn't show in the original krystle but does in Claire's adapted version.

I think Claire has found the main part of her problem though, which seemed to be that IIS was caching something beyond the ususal moodle or browser caches!

Richard
