Translation of Moodle courses

Translation of Moodle courses

We need to translate multiple Moodle courses, rich with many Moodle activities and resources (e.g. book, quiz, forum, lesson, etc.) into multiple languages, into multiple different languages. This will be an ongoing process where the courses will be updated with each new Moodle release and therefore, the ability to identify new areas for translation/text that has changed/etc. is critical. We were wondering who out there had, in the past, translated a single course into multiple languages in an automated fashion (i.e. using translation memory tools rather than simply translating, online page-by-page). All solutions are welcome!

Hi Tami:

This forum thread explains how to translate with OmegaT the elements in a Moodle course with a quizz, a SCORM created with eXeLearning, some documents and a HTML page.

https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=203613

The tutorial is in Spanish. It will be in English in a near future in The new eXeLearning website. The main process is:

  1. Use Rainbow to convert each element to XLIFF.
  2. Translate with OmegaT using translation memories.
  3. Use Rainbow to revert the conversion process.

It would be great to develop a export/import utility from Moodle to XLIFF format to make easier the process.
