Are you using Completion tracking or activity completion feature for your course. If check whether the assignment activity is marked complete or not. Or whether you have set any "Expected completed date" for the activity.
Please try to run cron once from www.yousite.com/admin/cron.php sometimes it will not accept activity is complete or not.
