Moodle Plugin Development for Beginners

Does anyone know the current state of documentation on developing plugins for beginners for moodle 2.0+? I have found a tutorial on 1.9. I believe I have found most of the documentation on plugins in Moodle.org and I have found nothing that even lays out the structure of a plugin folder. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi David,

As you may have seen from the state of 1.9 new module docs, there doesn't seem to be any great rush to help out newbies.

The best advice I can offer is to look in the Plugins directory and find a module that is closest to what you want to do or at least contains most of the functions that you need. Then, using an IDE that supports PHP, e.g. Eclipse or Netbeans, navigate back through the code to find out what parameters you need to pass through which functions to get the effects you want.

Also, check out this page: http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Plugins

There is some information on contributed code her: http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Guidelines_for_contributed_code

And the naming style here, which can help you find studd in a Moodle install: http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Frankenstyle

Matt is also correct.

The course on dev.moodle.org combines a few things.

It's also not up-to-date, but it is in a slightly better state than the tutorials in the docs.
