I know I've come across this before, but I forgot.

It's seems that it is not possible to have a folder resource WITHOUT force downloading of the files,

See: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-28501 regarding HTML files (The discussion has kind of faultered, unresolved) and the discussion here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=184088

I thought this was so obvious a need that this would get fixed in due course.

Q1: is there a way to NOT have force download of image files in a folder (ie just to view them) ??

Q2: if Q1=No, is there another way to simplly deploy a bunch of images so students can view them?

Q3: If Q1=No, what are your thoughts on a tracker request for (say) PNG, JPG and GIF to be viewable without force download?
ie is there a security problem with images?

Derek,

A glossary or database could be used for uploading images for students to view.  The glossary set up is simpler but the database has more frills. Use the encyclopedia type of glossary to show one uploaded file per entry or use the add image on the toolbar to add multiple images to the entry. There is a built in preset for the database called image gallery that will get you started and then you can add other fields as you need them.  Glossary and database entries are searchable.
