Record to database if lesson conditions are not achieved

Hello

I want to record for each user if they have failed to meet a lesson condition i.e. not achieved >#% and/or not spent enough time within a course. (I already have a custom table where this data can be sent to). 

Is it best to use the variables are already declared in mod/lesson/view.php and send them to the database?
