installing moodle 2.3.4+ on webserver XAMPP 1.8.1 (o.s. ubuntu 12.04)

I'm trying to install moddle using XAMPP 2.3.4 + 1.8.1 as webserver (o.s. Ubuntu 12.04), the first error message is: "Zip PHP extensions must be installed and activated."

I think I understood that it lacks the extension zip.so. I've tried looking for in the extensions directory / opt/lampp/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525, but the file zip.so is not present and therefore if I remove the comment on the line extension = zip.so in the file php.ini enter the XAMPP webserver crash.

How can I do?

thanks, greetings

Since Ubuntu can install the various apps needed to run Moodle ... apache, php, mysql ... natively, why would one want to install them via XAMPP?

See:

http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/Step-by-step_Installation_Guide_for_Ubuntu

Another reason for NOT using XAMPP for Linux ... those apps will eventually need updating.  More easily accomplished using the operating system ability to update/upgrade than a 3rd party package.

Try this: http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Installing_Moodle_on_Debian_based_distributions (the /22/ in the URL doesn't mean anything, those instructions are valid for all Moodle versions 1.6 - 2.4).

Glad to hear that.

What was the cause of your problem? How did you solve it?
