Moodle 2.4 - Activity Chooser problems

Moodle 2.4 - Activity Chooser problems

I am new to Moodle and hope to get it working for me but I have a problem.

The activity chooser only works on the home page; when I navigate to a course page and turn editing on, the Resource and Activities buttons are inactive.

I have explored settings ad nauseum but I think it may be a memory problem or maybe a bug in 2.4. Is there no easy way to troubleshoot and fix problems? The platform seems robust and versatile but administration appears to be for programmers only.

Can anyone help?

I have the exact same problem. I have another post in french to try to find out what the problem is.  I spent the day on it and haven't find anything yet.

Hope someone that knows it well will answer because I really need to put new stuff in my courses.

@Jonathan: When you activate edition, do you loose the left part of the page?

On mine, everything but the course disapears.

Before activation

And with activation onthere is notting on the left...

Hello both of you - I can't suggest a solution but could you turn on debugging (Settings > Site administration > Development > Debugging) and navigate to a course, try to turn on editing and see what error messages appear - and then post them here? Marc - André -je vais   voir ce qu'on t'a suggéré dans les forums francophones..

Good morning!

I think I do have the same problem as these two gentlemen:  when I want to add an activity, I have access to the drop down menu and nothing happens after selecting an option.

I hope I followed well your explanations, Mary, and this is what I got:

Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/fados047/public_html/moodle/course/renderer.php on line 77

Could this be an explanation?  As you could guess, this message looks like to be another language to me! lol

Merci Mary pour ton implication! smile

If Jonathan and Marc-André will switch their debug mode ON and get the same kind of Fatal error as reported by Bruno, then we can confirm that they are getting a memory problem on their server.

Please report the name of your hosting service. For example if you are using the 1&1 "mutualized" hosting service, it does not offer enough memory for a Moodle 2.4. That is the reason why I personally switched from 1&1 to OVH for my personal Moodle test site.

Ok, here's what I get too:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 73400320 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/lefo1861/public_html/moodlesthenri.com/lib/htmlpurifier/HTMLPurifier/Injector/PurifierLinkify.php on line 35

Witch seems to be the same has Bruno...

Alors on est fait...

So the problem is on the server as I understand it?

We need to change our hosting service?

Bruno and Marc-André - as Joseph asks, can you both name your hosting service?

Well, there remains to see if anyone else has managed to install a Moodle 2.x site and get it to work on the hostpapa provider.

the account "teacher" you are talking about is it related to Hostpapa or it is a setting with Moodle?

Thank you... I see there is hope! smile

Oups! One solution was to create an accout «teacher» and the possibility to add activities was back BUT There is almost noting in the barre.  How do I turn it ON ? I need the HTML code !

Re: Moodle 2.4 - Activity Chooser problems

We need to finsd a solution, I can't work with that.

Though I have this which looks ok but doesn't show

Re: Moodle 2.4 - Activity Chooser problems

Hi, (Bonjour!)

Mary et al., I'm having a similar problem and have scoured the forums but haven't found a solution. We've recently installed 2.6. Up until recently, everything was seemingly fine but now only managers can create activities or resources within a course. Teachers only see "edit" and do not see the drop downs within topics for activities and resources or option in the main menu block. This problem is confirmed if I (as site admin) switch roles or log in with a teacher dummy profile.

I have tried:

Checking the permissions

Reseting the teacher, course creator, and manager permissions to default

Removing the code in the config file that defaulted block positions in the courses

Checking groups to see if it's on (It's not)

Turning off AJAX

Reconfiging the Main Menu block to appear in different spots throughout the system

Changing the theme (Nonzero currently) to standard

Checking to see if any permissions overrides are in the categories (Aren't any)

Tried creating courses in different and outside of categories (no effect)

Checking the Manage Blocks table to see if anything seemed amiss. (It doesn't)

Turning on Debugging- No error messages in either Manager or Teacher Profiles

Out of ideas. Any help with this? I've seen several postings on the subject (such as here and here) en anglais (je ne l'ai pas encore cherché en français).

Help!

Thanks,

Hello,

I am not sure if this problem has been resolved, but I have experience similar issues were certain items would not respond when clicking on activities. It is possible the Moodle theme you have set is not aligning correctly with the activities links. I imagine the CSS would need to adjusted.

I changed our Moodle 2.4 site theme back to original theme and was able to add activities without any issues. Just a thought.

Happy Moodling!
