Sorry, I don't understand. It sounds to me like a load balencer setup with many identical machines, all running the webserver and the database
server. In that case my advice earlier does not apply. I was talking about _one_ machine running Apache and another the database server.
If it is about clustering, you might want to shift the discussion to the "Hardware and Performance" forum. Sent a message to the moderator.

Unless you are talking about going from Apache 1 to 2, there is no change in the Apache configuration for what I had in mind.
