For larger courses there is some need to "cut down" the main course page to make it easier to use over an extended period. The obvious way to do this is hide certain 'sections' (ie weeks/topics).
There's a number of ways to go with this, and some of them could potentially confuse students, so I think it would be a good idea to discuss them here and try and hash out a good interface before going ahead.
Some of the ideas so far are:
- add "memory" to the zoom facility ... ie when a user "zooms" in on a section (or zooms out to the whole course) then it stays like that between logins.
- automatic zooming ... a switch could be set by each user so that only the current section is shown by default (this will change depending on the week, or the topic that the teacher has made current). Of course, manual zooming would still work.
- hide "old" sections that have already been covered automatically (based on date)
- teacher can manually hide/show each section for the whole class
