Upgrading from 1.9

Hi,

We are currently running 1.9 and need to either upgrade or run a fresh install of a more recent version. Our database was upgraded recently and this has caused our 1.9 site to have quite few problems.

Any suggestions?

Should we upgrade or should we run a fresh install?

Should we go to 2.0? 2.2? 2.3?

Our goal is simply to have as smooth a running site for our teachers for second semester. We don't need bleeding edge technology, but we desperately want reliability. We have experience several painful data losses.

Thanks in advance for any time/suggestions provided.

On our site, we've found way too many bugs in 2.3. This is only the 2nd time I've regretted applying an update/upgrade. 2.2 was more stable for us. Having said that, I think the only bug left on our list after applying the latest weekly 2.3.3+ build is forum notification when groups are involved. I think that bug affects all 2.x versions currently so you might be able to go to 2.3.x now.

As always, I'd recommend you make a copy of your site, upgrade that copy and test what you use first.

Hi Patrick

Looks like you're not enjoying your new job, I mean "Currently running 1.9 .. how should we upgrade" https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=212371.

Do you mean "Cannot View Quiz Results .. 1.9" https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=213202 ? But there you said _all of a sudden_ ?

Same question, same answer.
- Short term, say couple of weeks, but after solving the problems you are having: 1.9.x -> 1.9.latest. See http://docs.moodle.org/19/en/Upgrading_to_Moodle_1.9.
- Medium term, a year, After thorough testing 1.9 -> 2.2 http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Upgrading_to_Moodle_2.2
- Long term, over a year, 2.2 -> 2.4 http://docs.moodle.org/24/en/Upgrading_to_Moodle_2.4
or 2.6 http://docs.moodle.org/26/en/Upgrading_to_Moodle_2.6.

Could you post links to those painful discussions?
