Moving files out of a repository

Hi everyone,

I am about to migrate my moodle from 1.9.16 to 2.3.3 but there is still something that's keeping me from migrating.

Up until now, once a year I move all course files (lessons, assignments, foro attachments and so on)  from my web server to a backup copy. I need to do that because I have to pay for any extra disc I use.  Besides, I want to keep the courses structure so I can keep students enrolments, grades, etc...which is quite necessary for my organization. That's why I can not delete old courses.

My question is, how can I move all those files out of the repository in one go without deleting a course?

Is there any moodle function that I can use?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Moving files out of a repository

The file structure for Moodle 2 is very different from 1.9, so it may not be possible to do what you want -- but I'm no expert. With luck, someone will be able to tell you how to do this in Moodle 2.

However, what you could do is set up your own Moodle server on your personal/office computer, then backup the Moodle courses online and restore them to your local host system. Then you can delete them from the pay-for server while still having access to the marks etc when you need them. This may be using a sledge-hammer or wrecking ball to crack a nut, but the nut will be cracked.
