I've tried a simplified screen to mark essay questions, by finding some of the CSS and hiding it with Firebug. This removes some of the screen clutter (for example, a copy of the question for every answer) - useful IF all I want to do is read the answer and give a grade.
I was wondering if there was a simple way to have a button that hides some of the CSS element. I posted, but at present no-one has replied. Here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=211536
The screens are so cluttered. In the other posts in the forums here where people have said so, the answer has always been "I don't use the screens, I use the XYZ options to make my questions elsewhere and import them" This is a market niche in my opinion.
With all due respect to the power and versitility of the questions (Feedback, grade boundaries, options, shuffling, partial credit etc) I have never taken a workshop with 'average' users without there being sort of a bemused response to the screens (and often with comment about useablilty), and some give up on the spot. But the fact is this is an OU effort, and for them with their scaleability it is worth it, and they do the importing thing, and many tutors never touch the quiz, it's all done for them.
Joseph: I agree, the debate would never end. John, you are quite right of course (and maybe this is worth a tracker item - this would be a simple plugin), but as someone has said, GIFT may be best.
