Weighted mean of grades and sum of grades

Weighted mean of grades and sum of grades

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to use weighted mean of grades as a course aggregation and categories as sum of grades that include extra credit assignments which are checked as extra credit.

The totals in each category look fine and the extra credit seems to be doing what is suppose to do but the course total is a number that I am not sure how to add up the math for it.
For example, a student has 160/300, 160/300 and 260/300 from each category and course total is 510/900.
Please see the attached screenshot as well.

Could someone explain me the math behind weighted mean of grades when the categories are set to sum of grades?

Thank you!

Hi Daniel,

In my experience the Weighted mean works with whatever the item score or category total is so shouldn't matter how that score is achieved. I havn't tested it with the extra credit though.

You can read the details of Weighted mean calculations and the others in the docs here:
