Currently, when there is a new version of Moodle, I make a backup, then I delete the directory where Moodle resides and copy all new files to the old Moodle directory. I then use a copy of the config.php script from the old install and put it into the new directory. This works fine.
However, as I increasingly get more involved, I find myself creating custom scripts and modifying settings here and there.
Doing that has created a new problem for me. The new problem is that my special mods get lost when I upgrade!
I have heard about GIT, and I suppose this is the solution to my problem. However, I am a total newbie with that concept. As I understand it, GIT will only upgrade what needs to be upgraded, right?
How do others in my position do this? Is there some other method?
