Hernán, Pascal was devised as a programming language that could be an intro into C, C++ particularly, but for me, it was also the first program language I used as team member developing a very early POS program. The team did not want to use Fortran, and someone suggested Turbo Pascal. It was easy to learn, easy to use, did what it needed to do. The hardest part was developing a flat-file database, it had absolutely no security, anyone could have edited the database with Notepad... what did we know!!! It was not just "an academic language for learning.", for me.
