Hi Laura. First off - are you sure you are on the right Moodle? This is the main global Moodle site where you ask questions about how Moodle works (which you did) and where you can download Moodle to test or use for your establishment. To add  a course you need to have been given course creator or administrator privileges the  administrator  of your establishment (if you are not the administrator) and then you can read this: http://docs.moodle.org/en/Adding_a_new_course
