Moodle in English: users can't enrol in my courses

users can't enrol in my courses - 2.3

Hi all

I've moved up from Moodle 1.9 to 2.3 (fresh install) and am having a real problem with the pupils not being able to enrol themselves. I have read LOADS about this on this forum, but still can't work out what is going wrong. I read this document:

and understood it... mostly.

I went to: Settings > Site administration > Plugins > Enrolments > Self enrolment

as suggested and the plugin is enabled. However, the document also says to go here:

Settings > Course administration > Users > Enrolment methods

and enable self enrolment for each course. Well maybe I'm being stupid, but WHERE is the Settings > Course administration > Users > Enrolment methods link? If I log in as admin, in the settings section there is no 'Course administration' link to click on.

If you go to Settings as admin you have the options of:

>Front page settings

>My profile settings

>Site administration

So how can I go to: Settings > Course administration > Users > Enrolment methods as is suggested in the Moodle 2.3 documentation?

SO frustrating. It was so easy in Moodle 1.9

HI there -you will get used to it When you say "enrol themselves" you mean into a course yes? As opposed to making accounts straight onto Moodle? You need to go into a course and you will find the course administration there.

Hi mary - thanks for getting back to me.

I'm still non-plussed as to how to get pupils to be able to self enrol. If you go to each course that I have and check the settings page the only setting I can see that is related is the 'Availability' one and in all my courses this is set to:

"This course is available to students" but they still can't enrol! The self enrolement plug in is on in the main site Administration settings, so where am I going wrong?

I have followed the steps posted here, but after enabling self enrollment by course, then creating group keys, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to help my students register for my course. When they arrive at my site, they are just given a log in, not an option to enroll. Help!

Ah - you need them to authenticate (authenticate means get an account on Moodle and enrol means enrol yourself into a course) There are various ways your students can do this but you might be thinking of email based self registration - see here http://docs.moodle.org/en/Email-based_self-registration If not, look at the whole authentication page with other options - Authentication
