Provide access to course for authenticated users without enrolement

In our moodle students need to log in. Besides the individual courses, there are plenty of courses available that students should be able to access to read some information (like ordinary websites, but the courses are not public)

But students should not be enroled into the course. (Otherwise they get long "my courses" lists and lots of unneccesary emails )

From what I know, it is only possible to provide access to a course without enrolement by using Selfenrolement Method for Guests. Thats not possible for me as the courses may not be public.

Any ideas?

You can have self enrolment for logged in users - it's just self enrolment. Guest access is a different thing - you can have this or not, but from the sounds of things you don't want it.

Assuming you've enabled self enrolment from the system admin menu/users/enrolment methods, you can add self enrolment to the course as an enrolment method, and you should not need to do anything else.

Users will then see the link within the course lists that allows them to enter the course. When they do they have to click on the 'enrol' button, and then they are enrolled.

I suppose my request is quite unusual. I already use the self enrolement, but I don't want users to be enroled into courses. They should just be able to enter a course (readonly access is enough)

But I suppose there is no way to do this.
