Any favorite parts? my favorite features are the drag and drop, resource/activity picker and the new topic by page course format.
I actually think that it is an overall thing for me rather than the individual parts. It feels such a leap from what 1.9 is. 1.9 was good and brought Moodle to me as my first experience of a non-folder orientated eLearning system that was quick. However, 2.3 is just 'polished' and has the look and feel of a paid for product even though it is free.
Under the hood it is certainly more OO than it was, for which does take a longer time to achieve but has benefits later on for quick additions of new functionality. A sort of slow start fast finish.
I like 2.3, but I've really only dabbled so far. Section conditional release is one nice things that will help us. I once was not a fan of external tutor-directed learning pathways, but I'm now involved in a different educational sector.
re D'n'D it's been interesting to see the discussion on the tracker as this has developed. http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-29766
This will require some real discipline, especially with no reports on disk size and bulk file delete options.
The thing that grabbed me was the ability not to have to say in the classroom (ICT) go to the N drive, then x folder, then the y folder.... You could organise and present work as it should be not some glorified dead boring filing system. Plus, the students and teachers could access it from home. So no longer were there excuses on both sides of 'I've forgotten my memory stick'. I was less stressed as a teacher because I could work through my preparation knowing that it was there and ready for the starting week rather than the mad panic on a Monday morning to get it all in place.
That is not to say that it replaces the teacher or the classroom or indeed prevents bad course design, but used correctly and responsibly it can aid the educational process.
I installed and Moodle 2.3 but haven't given much time to it simply because I have built all my courses around the Quzport plugin. TaskChain appears not to be available yet for the 2.x line. I don't want to pester Gordon with cries of "Are we there yet?" from the back seat, but are we there yet? Does anyone have any news about Taskchain for 2.x?
I can't wait to make the switch, but without TaskChain, I have to stick with 1.9.x.
Thank you Glenys! I will stay tuned to that channel for breaking news on Taskchain.
Anybody in the downunder part of the world planning to make a move to 2.3 or 2.3.1 for Semester 2 on July 16?
