First, have to confess, never heard of LAE 1.5 so dunno if it's Windows, Unix, or Linux. Confused! :|
But, will share what have done with a Linux server using a Windows workstation/server in archiving the course backups when the cron job and backup routine is run.
This is for CentOS ...
Create a mount point. Example: /home/winserverbu
mount -t cifs -o username=[username],password='[password]',rw,uid=500,gid=500 //IP-address/directory /home/winserverbu
replace the [parameter] above with correct information. In the case of '[password]' IF one used characters in the password that could be interpreted by the mount command on linux, the "ticks" (single quote character) treats what's enclosed as a value to pass or use as a parameter.
When it works it works - although slow to actually create the backup zips. Probably some tweaks that could speed up the writing to the mount point I've not found yet.
Of course, there is always the 'flip side'. If the mount point is lost one needs a monitor of some sort to notify you other wise the backups could be going off into la-la-land somewhere!
In the 1.9.x Moodle, the directory to save to is: /home/winserverbu
