navigation menu drop down arrow not working

Hello =)

I'm experiencing a problem where the navigation side bar menu arrows are not responding.

I've attatched an image to show what I mean.

If anyone knows about this or is experiencing this issue, that'd be a great help

thanks

Hi,

This usually happens when you have some confict of Javascrit on the page. Have you got any 3rd party plugins?  Anything that you have added recently?

Hi,

IMHO you can try this link: http://yourdomain.com/theme/index.php

and hit the (Clear theme caches) button,

and if this did NOT solve the problem,

you may try (purge all caches) button

from this link : http://yourdomain.com/admin/purgecaches.php

I'm having a similar problem, it appears to work fine from within a course BUT from the front page/My moodle page won't do anything on any of the drop down arrows..

Would love a solution. Have tried purging caches...

Just upgraded to 2.4 and have encountered the same problem.

Navigation items that aren't links (collapsible submenus) don't work.

Odd, because an identical install of 2.4 on my dev server works fine.

Clearing the theme cache didn't work.  Purging all Moodle caches didn't work.  Clearing my browser cache does work!  Problem solved.

Re: navigation menu drop down arrow not working

Hi

I'm experiencing something very similar - v2.3.2. and a brand-new build. The expanding menus, their links and also the +Add Activity / resource link are all inactive - but only when the site is viewed over https.

The same server/site/page/link all works fine when viewed internal to our firewalls etc. over http

Have tried many of the solutions listed above but no change. Will continue looking but wonder if the http/https issue may give any pointers?

Thanks

Re: navigation menu drop down arrow not working

I don't know if this will help anybody else, but I've been puzzling over this on our test system for a couple of days and seem to have found a solution.

We are running Moodle 2.4  on our test server on IIS with MSSQL and it looks as though our problem was related to php settings within IIS.

What got me looking was that a local version worked, whereas the version on our test server didn't and php.ini settings seemed to be consistent. I found that my local version of php was slightly newer, so I changed to the latest version on the test server.  This produced a few issues, so I looked for a reminder of registering php with IIS as I haven't done it for a whille.

I ended up by installing thePHP manager for IIS and using it to register the new php version

full details of what I did can be found at:

http://www.deepshiftlabs.com/dev_blog/?p=1880&lang=en-us

once I had registered the php version, I clicked on the "view recommendations" link in the error message at the top, ticked the box for resourceType and clicked ok to allow it to make the change. (the last bit can be done in the handler mappings for PHP_via_FastCGI).  Hey presto, the dropdown arrows started working.

hopefully this will be of use to somebody else.

Re: navigation menu drop down arrow not working

I think it's browser issue, could you try reset the browser settings for IE. In other browser it'll work without this drop down issue, perhaps. smile

Re: navigation menu drop down arrow not working

HI Yes it is the same issue in all browsers. I have lowered all the secruity settings in IE, for example, and still the same problem. However, ie does give me a prompt to show unsecure items and then most of the navigation works.

To explain properly, the site wrks fine internally. Externally i can not click on the navigation arrows, i can not click on the add resource/activity links when editing is on. Anything in the Dock will not show. It is like javascript or something is being blocked for external access. The site is set on https and it has a valid SSL certificate.

any help much appreciated!

Re: navigation menu drop down arrow not working

The solution of registering PHP_via_FastCGI has worked. In Plesk Panel go to Domains-> mydomain.com -> Web hosting options and set then PHP_via_FastCGI in php support.
Thank you very much

Hi all. i am new to this but have just installed 2.5 version and had the same problem i am hearing described here. I also couldnt get the html editor to show either. Eventually i figured out that If i went to:

Site administration/Appearance/AJAX & Javascript and then unchecked the cache javascript box and saved the page it fixed the problem.

How did you get to Site administration/Appearance/AJAX & JavaScript if the navigation bar does not work?
